The 2008 Battle of the Acoustics

The Battle of the Acoustics is a competition to find the best live act, selected from the acts who enter to play the first round heats. Acts can include solo artists, duos and small bands. Acts can play either original songs or covers. All competition dates are on our gigs listing. See our page on the Battle of the Acoustics competition

Mondays

Open mic nights are for singers and musicians and often include singers who accompany themselves in guitars or keyboard.

One of the best takes place on Mondays at The Musician, Clyde Street, Leicester, starting around 8.30 p.m. Entry is free to singers or £1 to listeners.

Tuesdays

The Twisted Toucans, Braunstone Gate, Leicester, 9 p.m. till close.

Open mic for singers and musicians at Odyssey, 32 Millstone Lane, Leicester, LE1 5JN from about 8.30. Entry is free.

Venue: The Doghouse (left side of The Greyhound , 69 Nottingham Road, Loughborough.

How to find the venue: The Doghouse is a part of the Greyhound Inn in Loughborough but you get into it through its own entrance so it is separate in a way. Whichever way you come in, when you are in Loughborough look for signs for Nottingham. These will put you on the Nottingham Road (A60) which is the road you want. Going out from the town centre on that road look for the Greyhound pub on the right. The Doghouse is next to the Greyhound down the left hand side. If you go past the railway station you have gone too far and need to come back into Loughborough.

Howard Coleman organises this one. It takes place every 6 weeks at The Doghouse.

£3 on the door (£2 for concessions - unemployed, students, OAPs etc) all of which goes to Oxfam.
