Archive of page New Leicester Rock Bands - made 3rd July 2009Archive pages - home page and listing New bandsWe list bands here and then transfer them to the main listings Arms of Atlas We started in the winter of 2008 from the demise of two local Leicester bands FreeFallFelix, Centauri and Milton Keynes based band Six Point Five. Free ControlFive piece band drawings its influences from a range of bands including Pink Floyd, Faithless, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead and many others. They are set to play at the Summer Sundae festival this year and have also appeared at Glastonbudget 2009. Featuring Mike Sole on Keyboard. Dead SlowBringing together the weirdness of Radiohead, the urgency of Muse, and the rough edges of Pavement, Leicester’s Dead Slow generate their own twisted-but-tuneful sound that keeps your mind guessing and your ears ringing. Since forming in 2006, the band have been busy gigging up and down the country, playing anywhere and everywhere from strange small-town clubs to cult London venues like The Dublin Castle and The Hope & Anchor. Bike Shed EffectWe're four lads with a great passion for music and playing live. We genuinenly enjoy what we do and hope to persue it further with the help of the public by trying to get them involved as much as we can. We're recording a four track EP during July and shall be having the launch in Leicester at The Musician on the 31st July with a headlining band called Amy Can Flyy who will be flying down from their UK tour a couple of days before. Weekend SchemersA four piece indie/alternative band formed in 2009 and currently writing and recording new songs. Product RecallLeicester heavy rock band formed in 2004. The five band members play hard rock and have an album coming out on 26th June that will be available on Amazon and iTunes and from Rockaboom Records in Leicester's St Martin's precinct. Wild OlivesFeaturing Pascal Mowla, a new folk rock band. Deap PeopleFormed, we are told, by musicians from Ego Armalade, they already have a prestigious list of gigs over the summer and a really great set of songs. Crisis ConfirmedA new metal band from Leicester who are just starting to get out there. They havent got any tracks up yet or any gigs to play but lets hope they start gigging soon so we can check them out. The WaitsThe Waits are an indie/new wave trio from Coalville. They are playing the first round heats of Surface Unsigned and the launch night of Roasted Recordings at the Time Bar in Leicester. They are now in our main bands listing. Phase 4Seven piece ska/punk/hardcore outfit who have been a round for a while, trying to convert the world to ska and doing a nice job at that too. They have performed with the Splitters, Hype Psyhco and Smokin the Profit, so they seem to be doing pretty well really. They have an EP out soon. Hopefully they will be sending us a copy to review. The Mango MafiaThe Mango Mafia were formed mid summer 2008. They play whatever music they feel like making (good start!), but it just so happens they end up with lots of skapunk, rock and reggae with a hint of poppunk (sounds good to me!). They got banned from their first rehearsal room by a combination of an 'Environment Health and Safety Officer' and an old lady from hell but hey now practise at Loughborough College, where they all do music courses. There are a few people that seem to like them: Kiz Ryder - ex Taste the Chase says: "DUDE!! its sick!! :-0... sorta reminds me of Spunge meets No Doubt", so, armed with this recommendation, we look forward to seeing them on the stages of Leicester in the near future The FlamonicsFormed in October 2008, really quickly, the three band members met just the month before, whilst studying performing arts at college. They decided to put their instruments together and liked what came out. Within the space of three weeks they had written a full set of orignal songs and started gigging. They went out with the intention to entertain at gigs, because they knew they could, with a strong performance background. Influences are derived just from general people, funny people, actors, musical theatre actors, composers and son on. Next year, the band hopes to carry on having as much fun making the music and playing gigs and entertaining as many people as they can hopefully in increasingly bigger and better venues. The FusionsA four member indie band with lead singer Kat Oram backed by all three of the other members of the band. Catchy tunes and a strong stage prescence make this a very enjoyable band. Their flagship song "naked in the ktichen" is popular with their fans, who sing along with it and it's got a good chanty chorus. AstromaniacsA four piece indie band formed early in 2008 from students at Countesthorpe College (where Kasabian came from). Stereo TrashStereoTrash started when four skaters took a look at what music is around today, what kids were listening to at school and thought 'The hell with this!'. With child-like energy, a fresh raw sound and some messed up punkster prankster antics, this is what makes StereoTrash the band they are today. With mouth-watering solos, no bullshit and to the point lyrics, tasty bass lines, ear-bursting drum beats and riffs that will make your Grandma dance, if fast, hard and catchy music your thing, Then StereoTrash are the band for you. BTW we have a new demo up of one our songs The Pickpockets The Pickpockets originally got together in January 2008 with Omar, Glenn and another friend. Glenn invited John down to a practice session where they decided to add him into the band. After agreeing on Pickpockets as the band name, the original drummer left and for a few months the band split up. When Omar wrote songs, he occassionally showed John what he'd written. The IronyFour member indie band with influences drawn from Kings Of Leon, The Strokes, The Libertines, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin. SkarotsSkarots is a new band formed to combine the fusion of indie/rock/ and occasionaly a bit of ska. Major Motion PictureThis band has been has been formed from members of other bands such as Taste the Chase, A Horse A Horse, Manufactured God, Emit Remmus and The Packaways. So, will be watching this new pop punk band with keen interest. Paris Revolutionis a Leicester pop rock band who have just got going after a bit of a break; good vocals from lead singer Robin Martin with some solid backing vocals from Kalada Bruce - Jaja. Bouncy, and some blistering guitar solos from Sam Fox, listenable songs, tightly played, makes this a band well worth going to see. Sunfloweris a new and delightfully different band. Their brand of funky, jazz rock fusions is in the mould of Pink Floyd, Courtney Pine and John Coltrane, with a hint of El Pussycat thrown in. They are not the only band with a female sax player (q.v. Pressure) but in their case they have made good use of the brass section to forge an emjoyable set of songs, ably delivered by Lead singer Tom Hackwell. The Stiggzare a young band who have started to hit the scene. A strong lineup of indie songs and a natural born rock singer in the lead, this is a band worth making tracks to go and see. The Fearhave started playing in Leicester and have met with a bunch of favourable comments, following their gig at the Queen Vic on 6th September. The band recently decide to change its name to Dr. Hypnos. A band that oozes creativity and style, they have an admirable sound and some ground breaking songs. MoitessierNuneaton three peice band (pron. moi-tess-i-ay) started playing Leicester venues in April 2008, and have been putting on some really good shows. All three band members sing, especially the drummer Sam who also has a wikkid line in chat between the songs. A good set list of rock songs, in some places you can hear influences from Foals, Kings of Leon and The Cure, these guys play with a sense of fun, passion and energy which makes their gigs engaging and enjoyable. A really nice trio of lads with some good sounds, catch Alex, Sam and Adam at a gig near you if you can. All band members are from Nuneaton but they often play in Leicester. Bands making a comebackIndie fans might remember Quaternary Limit, who were singing a bunch of funky songs over a year ago. The same lineup - Tom Ugli, James Robinson, Kevin Crosby and Ciaran Danaher - have reformed and have played their first gig under their new name "The Jacaranda Chaos Band" - there is a video of their first gig, at the Pavilion, on their Myspace. Herra Hidro have come back on the scene after a sabbattical leave of about seven months. We thought we knew all the bands in Leicester/shire, but hey, new ones keep popping up all the time.
