In date order February 11th and 12th - The History Girls, Manhattan 34 "A sort of Bronte Python - a firm command of the ridiculous" - Chortle. The History Girls are an all female comedy trio writing for television. At their last showcase, they were approached by Objective Productions and are now working with Ben Farrell, filming sketches for BBC and developing ideas for their own TV show. They recently won an award at Manchester's Co-Filmic Comedy Festival, where they also won the admiration of producers Charlie Hanson (Rickie Gervais) and Leslie Udwin, who are now big supporters. Chortle reviews described the History Girls as "a sort of Bronte Python ... with a distinctive sense of offbeat humour." Manhattan 34 bar, 34 Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1RD. Doors open 8:30, entry £8 (£6.00) February 12th - James Acaster - Work in Progress, The Exchange Bar James Acaster performs his stand up comedies for you in the form of a brand new show. He is looking forward to this very much. As seen on Russell Howard's Good News (BBC3) & Chris Addison's Show and Tell (E4) and on tour with Milton Jones & Josie Long Bottle Rocket comedy, 8.15 p.m. Tickets £3.50 February 12th - Adam Hess and Chris Turner, Kayal Restaurant Join award-winning comedians Adam Hess (Chortle Student Comedian of the Year 2011) and Chris Turner ('Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year' Final Nominee 2012, BBC New Comedy Award Finalist 2011, So You Think You're Funny? Finalist 2010) for a debut hour of jokes, sketches and songs at the Kayal venue in Granby Street. "The gags come quickly, and he virtually batters the audience into laughter" - Chortle. Box office: 0116 255 7066 February 12th - Simon Munnery, Curve British Comedy Award Nominee and Sony Radio Award Winner, Simon Munnery presents a brand new show. It's an extravagant mess of foaming bubble hats, superlative jokes, bad guitar riffs, delightful monologues, hand-made engineering feats and an overly ambitious one-man punk musical. Catch Kirsty's solo show in the double bill alongside American comic Kate McCabe on Monday 13th Feb. Double Mint, Munro and McCabe, at The Looking Glass, a cocktail bar on Braunstone Gate. Kirsty reveals her take on approaching the daunting age of 30 in her Edinburgh Fringe Preview Dirty 30. It has been a busy year on the comedy circuit for Kirsty, beating 10 other acts to win Comedy Cashback a new act competition in March and taking her debut stand up comedy show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the summer. She has since teamed up with a comedy collective of local actors and comedians to produce comedy sketch cabaret shows under the moniker Firm Hand Shake. She's feisty, flirty and effortlessly funny she handles every subject with a razor sharp wit, softened by her dizzy delivery and charm. The Studio Performance at 7.45pm Tickets £15 February 16th - Kirsty Munro, The Interlude Come and vote for the team of new comedians who make you laugh the most in a stand up comedy showdown Battle of the Sexes - Girls Vs Boys at The Interlude on Thurs 16th Feb, on Eastern Boulevard near De Montfort Uni. Kirsty will be compering the night and whipping the audience into a frenzy as the competition heats up. The Theatre Performance at 7.30pm Tickets £18.50 February 17th - Curveball Comedy Talent Nights Competition, The Final, Curve CurveBall showcases local Leicester talent and this is a fantastic opportunity for a budding comedian to launch their stand up career. The heats and final took place in the Curve foyer from 10pm, after the Comedy Festival performances. In this Final, the winner will win a cash prize of £150 and a slot at the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year show on Saturday 18th February at the Y Theatre. See the Curve web site for more February 18th - An Audience with Pam Ayes, Curve Pam Ayres brings her latest show to Curve, following the recent publication of her autobiography, The Necessary Aptitude. Pam's show includes a selection of new poems and stories, as well as some audience favourites. See the Curve web site for more. February 19 - Kevin Precious in Not Appropriate, Kayal Restaurant Having completed a successful run of well-attended shows at the Brighton Fringe 2010 (first four outings) - and further tightening proceedings up at the Camden Fringe - former teacher Kevin Precious has been hitting the road with his stand-up show about the profession, Not Appropriate. 'Kevin's stage charisma and poise set him head and shoulders above the previous acts.' - The Times. Kayal Restaurant, 153 Granby Street, Leicester. 3.20 p.m. February 19 - Peter Antoniou, Kayal Restaurant Critically acclaimed comedy mind reader Peter Antoniou comes to Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival on Sunday 19th of February to guide you through his world of psychic weirdness. In his newest show, 'Psychic Detective', Peter attempts his most ambitious project to date. Inspired by the TV cop shows, he wanted to see whether his abilities could be put to use solving mysteries so set about getting in touch with private investigators and detectives. This show demonstartes the surprising results. Peter Antoniou is a Mind Reader. It's just that simple. He has a unique set of skills and gifts that allow him to read thoughts, pre-empt decisions people will make and influence their thought process.Using these amazing skills and his quick wit Peter has become a sensation on both the comedy and cabaret circuits. Refreshed and raring to go, our comedy night is ready to entertain you and your friends with a night full of comic genius to make you belly laugh all the way home.
