Leicester Comedy Festival 2011

Leicester comedy festical

The 2011 LCF ran from 4th to 20th February

This was the first year we actively covered the LCF; see our reviews of those acts that we covered by visiting the pages below.

The Leicester Comedy Festival is a great asset to Leicester; it does a lot to put our city on the national map. It generates income for the local economy. It entertains local people and those who comes here from far away.

This has been the festival's 18th year and it has come a long way since its foundation in 1994. Many shows were a sell-out and certainly all of those we went to were well-attended with hardly a unfilled seat in the house, from the DeMontfort Hall through to tiny venues. The audiences were warm and appreciative. Many performers told us that they really love coming to Leicester for the festival and all were keen to come back again.

There were household names - comedians we are used to seeing on our tv screens but also new and rising acts that are making a name for themselves. The various events also pulled in a wide range of styles and genres, showing how comedy can be an element of poetry, spoken word, music and story-telling.

Us here at Artsin were really pleased when acts started to contact us asking if we would publicise their gigs and in some cases to come down and write them up. All of them were good and we really enjoyed meeting and interviewing the guys.

In a city that is noted for so much - It's bands, it's music - comedy has added another string to Leicester's bow as a leading centre for the arts and entertainment.
