A Curve co-production with New Perspectives and Derby Theatre. Directed by Daniel Buckroyd. Curve theatre, New Perspectives and Derby theatre are delighted to announce that one of Britain's best loved actors, Gwen Taylor will appear in a new stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's heart-warming family story THE BUTTERFLY LION. Adapted and directed by New Perspectives' Daniel Buckroyd, the play will Premiere at Curve theatre on Tuesday 17 April. Bertie rescues an orphaned lion cub whilst growing up in South Africa. However, when he's sent back to England to go to boarding school, the young cub is sold to a circus. Both boy and cub miss the bond which has grown between them ... but will they ever meet again? The audience travels in time with Bertie and Millie from the early years of the twentieth century, through the First World War and right up to the present day. Michael Morpurgo's award-winning novel paints a series of powerful images and Daniel Buckroyd's adaptation will take these images from page to stage as this drama of friendship, separation, and suffering unfolds. Gwen Taylor will play 'Millie'. Born in Derby, Gwen is one of Britain's leading actresses and has had numerous roles on both stage and screen, most recently appearing in CORONATION STREET as Ann Foster. DNA is an enthralling thriller by the award-winning writer Dennis Kelly (Matilda the Musical) and starring James Alexandrou (EastEnders). The production visits Curve 22 to 25 Feb, as part of its first national tour. DNA follows the story of a group of teenagers who try to cover their tracks after making the biggest mistake of their lives. But their temporary harmony soon begins to unravel with dire consequences for the gang and others around them. Relationships break down, innocent people are punished and in a further twist; all may not quite be as it seems. The play is set to ask its audience many questions including: How far would you go to hide the truth? Would you destroy someone's life to save your own, and protect your friends? And finally when does a lie matter more than the truth? Anthony Banks, the Associate Director of the National Theatre Discover Programme and will direct this brand new Hull Truck production which features a cutting-edge design and soundtrack, making it a thrilling introduction to live theatre. The production features an excellent cast of up-and-coming talent including James Alexandrou (Martin Fowler in EastEnders, Romeo and Juliet, Globe Theatre); Emily Butterfield (Treasure Island, The Canterbury Tales); Leah Brotherhead (The Kitchen Sink, Bush Theatre); Rhys Jennings (The Rivals, BBC Radio Drama Company); Daniel Francis-Swaby (Our Town, Vernon God Little); Elexi Walker (The Vagina Monologues, To Kill A Mockingbird, York Theatre Royal) and George Brockbanks (Dunsinane, National Theatre of Scotland/RSC). Actors Tom Clegg and Daniel Francis-Swaby are making their professional debuts. DNA is written by Dennis Kelly whose work has featured on both the stage and screen, and has been translated into 35 languages around the world. Most recently Dennis has received much critical acclaim for writing The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical, which is currently playing at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End. His other work includes the hit BBC 3 comedy Pulling Yin Yang - The Chinese State Circus at Curve 30th April to 2nd May at Curve Theatre Yin Yang - 'The interaction of two energies in a dynamic system of balance.' The highly awaited return of China's greatest circus featuring the first UK appearance of the formidable Shaolin Warrior known only as The One, sourced specifically by Director Phillip Gandey. One of the hottest shows wherever it's staged, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a nightclub singer who dreams of headlining in Vaudeville, but only achieves celebrity status when she murders her lover and enlists the help of Chicago's shrewdest lawyer to whip up the publicity surrounding the case and ensure her acquittal. Slick, sexy and sassy, Chicago is a must-see musical, with choreography in the style of the legendary Bob Fosse and a fantastic jazz score. Tickets available from CURVE web site Wednesday 7th December 2011 That'll be the day delights a packed DeMontfort Hall From the very moment that the band started up, the audience joined in, clapping along with the music from the five piece band on the stage. Opening with a medley of Christmas songs, That'll Be the Day brought another highly enjoyable evening to a packed house at the DeMontfort Hall. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the long running rock music show has been on the road for 25 years. In many parts of the UK, the show has been packing out venues 200 nights a year. The band did an amazing job at providing the live music, with one or two of them also joining in with the songs. The audience too did a pretty good job as a massed choir for many of the well known christmas number ones.
