We have updated our page on Tattoo art 8th February A guide to Leicester's art scene By Sophie Hunt To commence the tour of Leicester's art scene, New Walk Art Gallery is the logical choice, with its colourful and thriving heritage, offering a range of exhibitions, embracing the modern-day approach of contemporary craft with the 20th century German art and photography. The Hallaton Treasure exhibition is currently displayed in The New Walk Gallery (4th Feb to the 3rd June,) which, in recent years has established itself as a major archeological discovery. New Walk is fortunate enough to have in its midst the 20 remarkably preserved gold and silver coins, astonishingly recovered from a 2000 year old site. ![]() The Hallaton Treasure Chien-wei Chang's exhibition, Dont look back! I told you so commences at the New Walk on the 11th Feb until the 25th March 2012. Chang, an uprising artist, brings to our attention his dazzling display of recycled glass bottles displayed alongside his impressively hand crafted objects. Many more artists such as Maggie Scott, Shelley fox, Charlotte Hodes and Dai Rees will be featuring their work in New Walk 2012. ![]() Chien-wei Chang's, Don't look back! I told you so Leicester Art Walk is a must visit, the project commissioned a series of artists to produce artwork, to be presented in empty shop windows. These shops are all located within accessible distance of one other, within the city centre. The Art Walk was launched in 2010 however many artists work can still be identified within Leicester shop fronts today, for instance, Dan Morley, an multimedia Illustrator and designer and Tim fowler's partially abstract paintings. ![]() Leicester Art Walk The West End gallery, found within the Highcross shopping centre contains many fascinating works that range from prints of Banksy's work to that of the Contemporary Leicester Art Group, for instance Rosemary Clement who's work is sponsored by the gallery itself.
The University of Leicester's Art Centre provides a mixture of diverse activities and entertainment. Ranging from live music performances, theatre productions and comedy acts to an exhibition gallery and shop, this inclusive art centre fulfills everyone's needs. The Art Centre proudly boasts a plethora of artists work, for instance Pablo Picasso's famous Red owl Plate. The gallery remains open 10 am - 6 pm Mon - Fri, and can be reached by a reasonable ten minute walk from the city centre. Arts and crafts are also available for purchase here. 3rd February Leicester Live Exhibition An exhibition of photographs of local music artists is now open at The Crumblin' Cookie in High Street, Leicester. The show presents twenty photographs of live music in Leicester. It will be available for view on the first floor until 2nd May.
